Stay Tuned – *UPDATED*

March 21, 2011 Leave a comment

We’re forging ahead one week…

What that means is that we won’t be covering cable drama.  It has enough in common with the PTS (really, kind of is the new face of the PTS) that it won’t hurt to gloss over it.  Consider this a bonus – as much as all of you hated Carnivale, I’m fairly sure you would have detested Deadwood.

In terms of reading, that means you will be reading “The Mainstream, Distinction, and Cult TV” by Jancovich this weekend.  You can find it on e-reserve.

Week 6 Schedule – Take Two

February 7, 2011 Leave a comment

Given our heretofore unscheduled day off today, I’m going to bump things around a bit this week.  As I am positive all of us have seen enough episodes of The Simpsons to claim some level of expertise, we will skip the screening on Wednesday.

Come to class prepared to synthesize the following readings and come to some conclusion about what genre is and how we can write about it:

Mills – “New Jokes”
Thompson – “Comedy Verite”
Mittell – “A Cultural Approach to Television Genre Theory”

See you then!
