(Mary Tyler Moore Show review)

The Mary Tyler Moore show was a television broadcast produced by CBS that took our country by storm due to it positive and innovative portrayal of an independent career driven woman. The show was simply known as “Mary Tyler Moore” due to its sole focus on the central character. Its life span stretched from 1970 to 1977 and featured a relatively small cast of about eight. The cast members that performed on the show during its total duration was Mary Richard who played the role of “Mary Tyler Moore” as well as Lou Grant,  Murray Slaughter,  Ted Baxter,  Rhoda MorgensternPhyllis LindstromGeorgette Franklin,  and Sue Ann Nivens whom all either played co workers of Richard’s character or close friends. This show was considered a classic due to the way the title character was portrayed. It showcased an independent woman in a very positive light and earned several major honors such as Emmys and Golden Globes awards. After researching the show, I would have to say that there was not really an episode that greatly stood out among the rest yet there was a certain part in each episode that was very famous. The part that stood out the most of the broadcast would be when the main character Mary Tyler Moore, would toss her hat in the air at the end of every episode just as a carefree way of concluding her day. This portion of the show has gone down in history as one of the greatest television sequences of all time and even was made into a statue which depicts Mary Richard’s character throwing her hat in the air on the same Minneapolis intersection that the show was filmed. This show has even influenced several other contemporary television shows such as 30 Rock and Friends. I think the core audience of people who would watch this show would primarily be women of all ages because it gives off a since of empowerment which definitely can influence women to strive for success in all that they do!
